Skrull Architecture

Skrull is a turn-based game for 3-6 players. It is an extension of the card game Skull and an attempt to create a dynamic rule changing system each time the game is played, by adding extra rules as the game progresses, making each rule flip create new tactics and strategies for players to play around.

Here’s a demo video of some Skull(inspiration) gameplay: https://youtu.be/iWy4Mq2ftjE?si=B0kUpx_j1ZwZ4Ofr&t=965

Setup

Deal each player 3 Roses, 1 Skull and 1 Dud card. Shuffle and place the rule deck in the middle of the table. Reveal the top card of the rule deck.

Core Gameplay Loop

Play starts from the host player. Each player can do 2 actions on their turn:

  1. Play card(s) face down from their hand in front of them.
  2. Start a bid.
  3. Reveal cards.

The players bid on the number of roses they can reveal consecutively from the stacks of cards placed next to each player. Players choose a number from 2 - the max amount of cards placed on the table. once a bid has been placed, any player can either choose to pass or place a higher bid. Bidding ends when every player chooses to pass except the player who last raised the bid.

The bidding player must then flip cards to reveal as many roses as many cards they have bid. They must reveal all cards in their stack first. After revealing their whole stack, they can choose to reveal the top card of any stack of cards on the table.

Bidding can go two ways:

  1. If the bidding player reveals a skull card, revealing ends immediately and the bidding player loses a random card from their hand. The card lost is removed from the game and will not be shown to any player. If a player hits their own skull, they choose the card they lose. If a player loses all their cards they are out of the game.
  2. The player successfully reveals all roses without hitting a Skull. This earns the player a point. When a player gains 2 points, they win the game.

After bidding ends, play returns to the Play Cards Phase. Play continues until a player accumulates 2 points and wins the game.
